Parenting and Breastfeeding Classes

Miri offers several classes for her patients in order to help them achieve their goals. Miri provides individual sessions or group classes at her Anacortes office or in your home. Classes are a one time, intensive session with all the important details you need to know! Most classes will be covered by your health insurance with no additional charge to you. Below are a list of classes available at this time.

Prenatal Breastfeeding Class
This session focuses on position and latch, breastfeeding anatomy, mechanics, hormones, benefits of breastfeeding, hand expression, working, pumping, milk storage, feeding signs, prenatal breastfeeding assessment, common pitfalls, infant care, and postpartum support. This is a single class that is open to moms, dads, grandparents, siblings, or others who will be supporting mom and baby with breastfeeding. This class is approximately 2 hours in length.

Prenatal Childbirth Class
This session is a crash course in all things related to labor and birth. Taught from Miri's unique perspective as a midwife, doula, lactation consultant and mother, this class covers signs and symptoms of labor, mechanics and process of labor, comfort measures, labor medications, possible complications, vaginal versus cesarean birth, initial breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery. This class is approximately 3 hours in length.

Babies 101 Class
Babies can be a lot of work and for many moms and dads, it can be hard to adjust to life with a new baby. This class focuses on ways to keep your baby calm, happy, and fed along with a discussion of sleep patterns, infant massage and newborn personalities. Baby carriers and wraps will be available for clients to try on and learn to use. This class is approximately 1.5 hours in length.

Understanding Your Menstrual Cycle: Birth Control, Natural Family Planning and Trying to Conceive
Most women do not know the details of how their menstrual cycle works and are at a disadvantage when they experience physical or emotional changes at some point in their cycle. Come learn about the intricacies of the female hormones responsible for ovulation and vaginal bleeding and how they can affect you throughout the month. This class discusses the changes that occur in your body when you use a method of birth control, different methods to track your cycle, natural ways to prevent pregnancy, and ways to enhance your chances of getting pregnant when you are ready. This class is approximately 2 hours in length. 

How to Lost Weight Faster (in a Healthy Way!)
Many people want to lose weight but after trying several different methods, they are unable to reach their goals. After months or years of trying, they often give up believing that losing weight is impossible. This class focuses on safe, healthy ways to lose weight, the emotional responses that occur, healthy foods, and ways to stay on track. This class is approximately 1 hour in length.
