Miri is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant
(IBCLC) that provides lactation consultations for breastfeeding
moms and babies. Although breastfeeding does comes easily to a few
select women, most moms need some extra help getting breastfeeding
established. A small percentage of women are faced with significant
breastfeeding issues and need extensive support from a lactation
consultant. Miri is available for all those moms that need extra
support, advice, encouragement, diagnosis and treatment of all
breastfeeding issues. Breastfeeding consults are offered in our Anacortes office, in the comfort of your own home or through a video visit online. Here are some of the lactation services provided to our clients: Lactation Consultation (Initial)Mom
and baby are seen together for a double visit to evaluate and manage a
breastfeeding problem. A full medical history is taken, a breastfeeding
session is observed with pre and post weight feedings to determine milk
transfer, a physical assessment is performed, and diagnoses are made. A
breastfeeding plan is then created together including recommendations
for mom and baby. This visit usually lasts 1.5 - 2 hours. Lactation Consultation (Followup) Mom
and baby are seen for a follow up visit after an initial lactation
consultation to assess progress and need for further intervention or
support. Observation of a breastfeeding session with pre and post weight
feedings is completed, along with a physical assessment. A new
breastfeeding plan is created together and the need for further follow
up is evaluated. This visit usually lasts 1 - 1.5 hours. This
session prepares a pregnant mother for breastfeeding ahead of time. For
first time mothers, this is a chance to ensure that breastfeeding gets
started on the right path. For a mother who has already breastfed, this
is a chance to discuss any difficulties she may have had in the past and
brainstorm ways to avoid previous pitfalls this time around. Latch and
low milk supply issues are the most common topics discussed and prenatal
interventions can be effective in avoiding these problems when
breastfeeding is initiated. This session typically lasts 30 - 60
minutes. Have
your baby weighed on a medical grade infant scale to ensure adequate
weight gain and get answers to any breastfeeding or newborn questions
you might have at the same time! Preparing for Working and Pumping Many
breastfeeding mothers will be returning to work at some point during
their breastfeeding journey. This visit is designed to create a plan for
keeping your milk supply up by pumping at work and providing breast
milk for your baby while you are away. Newborn Behaviors and Soothing Techniques Babies
can be a lot of work and for many moms, it can be hard to adjust to
live with a new baby. This session focuses on ways to keep your baby
calm, happy, and fed along with a discussion of sleep patterns and
newborn personalities. Breastfeeding Class Miri
teaches a prenatal breastfeeding class for mothers who would like to
learn more about how to breastfeed before they have their baby. This
class is provided in a group setting or one on one in a private session.
Any family members with an interest in breastfeeding are welcome to
join. Please check out our Classes page for more information. |
